A Hub City native, David Shurbutt is a graduate of The University of South Carolina Columbia where he earned a BA in Studio Art and a MA in Media Art. After a career as a museum exhibit and graphic designer, he enrolled in the three year Master of Fine Arts in Studio (MFAST) low residency graduate program at The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD receiving his MFA in Studio Art in 2017. David has a multidisciplinary practice and a body of work in drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and video. He has exhibited primarily in the Southeast, but also in the Mid-Atlantic, West Coast, and Mid-West. David’s eclectic work is dedicated to the memory of his son Kai and reflects his interest in paleoanthropology, Jungian psychology, science fiction, and deep ecology.
